August YIN drew inspiration from the cultural carrier, Zheng Banqiao's Bamboo and Stone Map, and the importance of bamboo in Chinese culture. The design process involved deconstructing traditional elements and reorganizing them using contemporary design methods. The result is a space that pays tribute to the classics while expressing a degree of modern fashion.
The design is not just about aesthetics; it's also an effective medium to guide lifestyle changes and progress. YIN's process of division, reorganization, strengthening, and reappearance is a reflection of this philosophy. The design integrates elements that are delicate, modern, and practical, transforming the color system of Chinese painting into space and inserting bold curves to remodel the space.
One of the unique properties of this design is its ability to deconstruct representative cultures of different regions, integrate similar or contradictory aesthetic features, and explore the influence of traditional philosophy on modern life. This approach gives rise to a new way of life that blends the new and old, industry and warmth, fashion and tradition, modern and classical.
The project, which began in June 2018 and was completed in March 2019, was not without its challenges. Carving patterns or designs on the fireplace, phoenix carving, plaster decomposition, and the combination and presentation of the daughter's room were some of the technical hurdles that were overcome during the design process.
Despite China's splendid cultural heritage, integrating it into design is not an easy task due to its profound nature. However, this project is a successful attempt by August YIN to present Chinese cultural connotations in a modern context. The aim is to let people be in the house, with their hearts in the landscape, and their minds wandering in ancient and modern space and time.
Shuiquan Bay is a shining example of how design can be used as a medium to guide lifestyle changes and progress. It's a testament to August YIN's innovative approach and a worthy recipient of the Silver A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2020.
